You Do Not Have To Be Rich To Help Others Now

So many people think you need to rich or wealthy in order to help people… However, I am here to prove to you that you do not have to be rich to help others now… Don’t you know you are more than what your bank account does or does not have in it? Don’t you know you have been bestowed many gifts that can help people and are not determined by how much money you make or do not make? So many people say, “When I get rich, I am going to help the poor, homeless, widowed, children, etc…” Do you not know that your days are numbered? Do you not get that you are not promised tomorrow? What if, you never become rich? Does that mean you will never help others? If so, then your whole life would be wasted.

Our Saviour came here to show us how to live the fullest most rewarding life ever. He was not rich, he was not considered handsome and many even loathed him. Did he let the fact that the majority of world was against him and that he was poor stop him from helping others? Absolutely not!

So what is stopping you? The money excuse is no longer valid… So I will say it again… What is stopping you from helping others?

Be honest with yourself, now lets take that excuse and throw it in the garbage where it belongs πŸ™‚

How can I help?

Here are just a few ways you can help others regardless of what is in your pocketbook:

  1. Go through your belongings at least 3-4 times a year. What can you give away to those in need (clothing, blankets, food, toys, etc.). Not only will this help you unclutter your home, you can help others in the process.
  2. Access your skills and knowledge and use them for good.
    • Teach someone how to read.
    • Help them create a resume.
    • Teach them how to apply for jobs online.
    • Love to cook? Then cook them a hot meal. It can be as simple/affordable as beans and rice (hearty & healthy).
    • Sew sleeping bags for the homeless (no prior sewing skills required):

    • Do you enjoy baking? Create a bake sale to raise money for a cause.
    • Share your tips and knowledge online via social media, blogging and videos. You would be amazed at how many people you can help and reach
    • Do you love the Scriptures? Why not share them with others whether your neighbor, family, the homeless, those in prison, etc.?
    • Do you have other skills? Donate them to help an organization or someone in need. e.g. I’ve donated my graphic design skills. It does not matter whether you are a teacher, nurse, doctor, lawyer, homemaker, reporter, entrepreneur, engineer, seamstress, construction worker, therapist, plumber, etc. You have skills that can help others now.
  3. Have a yard sale and donate the proceeds.
  4. Sell items collecting dust on Craigslist & Ebay and donate the proceeds.
  5. Do you love helping people, children, animals and/or being a good steward of the Earth? There are plenty of organizations that already exist that could use your help in various ways. You can donate your time to the greater good πŸ™‚
  6. Learn how to coupon so you can help the homeless and poor get personal care items and the food & water they need. (This one tip has allowed us to give more than our budget could have ever allowed.)
  7. Start a jacket and blanket drive to pass these essentials out to the homeless in your area.
  8. Be a good friend and a good ear… Sometimes people just need a good hug, a shoulder to cry on and someone to listen to them.

I could go on and on… I am sure there is something else I have missed, however… I hope you got the point πŸ˜‰ Which is that YOU already have all the tools, money and skills you need to help others now!

So the question is, what are you going to do to help others? If you are already helping people out, what do you do to help? If you have an awesome idea on how to help others out regardless of income, then share it below. Share all your comments and questions below! I look forward to hearing all about them πŸ™‚

  1. As always your writing blows me away Jamie. This time on a emotional as well as a intellectual level. The fact that I know a little bit about your personal situation and here you are trying to help others. Your one amazing lady. Keep shining. Your story inspirational keep living it. One day everyone will need to hear it.
    Thanks for your post.

  2. Dear Jamie <3
Your fortune is way beyond measure, the fortune of sharing love, knowledge and practicing the fundementals of being a fellow human is more than most people will ever have in a lifetime!

Do not be deceived,God is not mocked; for whatever a man sows, this he will also reap.
    Galatians 6:7

    1. You melt my heart dear sister! Sometimes I think my heart to help is bigger than I can possibly live up to. However, the more I get to know Him, the more He shows me that nothing is impossible through Him as he keeps refining me!

It seems this post inspired both you & Larry to go to the book of Galatians, coincidence? I think not! πŸ™‚

  3. Powerful stuff. At the end of the day I think we can all agree that dollars are just dirty paper. If we’re responsible with a little, we got a shot at being responsible with more. People don’t suddenly change just because they got rich all of the sudden.

    1. Yes, it is indeed dirty paper… Paper that no longer has a backing. Which makes me think of the many verses about dishonest weights and measures.

      Proverbs 11:1-4

1 A false scale is an abomination to Χ™Χ”Χ•Χ”, But a perfect weight is His delight. 2 Pride comes, then comes shame; But with the humble is wisdom. 3 The integrity of the straight ones guides them, But the slipperiness of the treacherous destroys them. 4 Riches do not profit in the day of wrath, But righteousness delivers from death.

And about the being responsible with the little to receive more reminds me of:

      Luke 19:17

β€œAnd he said to him, β€˜Well done, good servant. Because you were trustworthy in a small [matter], have authority over ten cities.’

  4. Awesome post Jaime! This is one of the most inspiring things I’ve read today and it’s so true. Actions speak louder than any words, or items, and could make a world of difference for people. Taking positive action in a community really helps and makes you feel good too! πŸ™‚

    1. Thank you Brandon for the love! Yes, indeed actions speak volumes over words! And yes, you cannot help but be happier when you are doing good. It is quite contagious πŸ™‚

  5. Hi Jamie, great post it made me think of this.

    Galatians 5:13-14

For you were called to freedom, brothers. Only do not use your freedom as an opportunity for the flesh, but through love serve one another. For the whole law is fulfilled in one word: β€œYou shall love your neighbor as yourself.”

    1. I’m honored that this post made you think of this scripture. It is one of my favorites and that is indeed one of the greatest commandments! Could you imagine brother, if we all just did this one thing? Oh, how sweet it would be!

This post makes me think also of this in Markuw (Mark) 12:41-44

41 And sitting opposite the treasury He saw how the people put copper into the treasury. And many rich ones put in much. 42 And a poor widow came and threw in two small copper coins, which amount to a cent. 43 And calling near His taught ones He said to them, β€œTruly, I say to you that this poor widow has put in more than all those putting into the treasury, 44 for they all put in out of their excess, but she out of her poverty put in all that she had, her entire livelihood.”

    1. I’m not sure I would label any one that comes out of their perceived limitations and decides to walk in our Saviour’s shoes average… However, that is just my personal opinion πŸ™‚

  6. Just wondering why you have a Muslim prayer widget if you are a Christian? I surfed over from Money Saving Mom – your comment about calcium sources was great!

    1. Sorry, I am just getting back to you Heather. I have taken a hiatus from blogging and the online world until of recent. I was testing the widget for a client to see if it had all the elements they would need for their site at the time. However… Who ever said I was Christian?

Do I believe in the one true Creator in the Scriptures YHWH? Yes. Do I believe in the Messiah/Saviour? Yes. But his name is not Jesus. Many do not think what his actual name is important. Though he and the Scriptures affirm otherwise.

Did you also know that Muslims believe in the same Creator and that Isa (still not his true name, though some do pronounce it as Yahuw, which is on the right track) is the Messiah? That they believe in the Scripture that came before? That the word Muslim simple means one who submits to Allah which simply is the Arabic form of the word G-d, or Allahym in true Hebrew? Granted if you judged Muslims by what the majority do, just as the majority of Christians or Yahudi’s (Jews), then you would realize the majority follow man-made doctrine vs. what their Scriptures actually say, despite YHWH warning each and all not to do so.

So what am I? A person that submits to the one true Creator. Who does her best everyday to truly follow His way vs. man and to get to know him more. Who diligently seeks to test/prove all things and hold fast to that which is good. Who celebrates His set-apart days vs. man’s. Who believes in ALL of His Scriptures He so gloriously blessed us with. Who believes in all of His prophets. Who believes in the last days and the day of judgement. Who knows who her Messiah & Saviour is.

Here is a pretty detailed article which depicts why I choose not to be labeled as a Christian:

β€˜Test all things and hold firmly that which is good.’ ~1 ThessalonikiAH (Thessalonians) 5:21

Shalom, Salam, May YHWH Bless you and keep you… As-salamu Alaykum (Peace be upon you.)
